Badass

After watching Eastern Promises for the 10th time, I realized i had to do a post on just how badass Viggo really is. He is brilliant in my opinion. I think the pictures prove my point. As well, rumor has it there is going to be an Eastern Promises 2. Until then, i will anxiously await until The Road comes out...

This is a cool feature on men.style.com about various men's designers picking out their favorite picture of their dad for the upcoming father's day. I now see where they got their style from...

Jeff Shipley -Sam's Dad -Shipley & Halmos
John Whiteledge Sr - Father of John Whiteledge Jr. -Trovata

The Inspiration for APC & Kanye

I was recently at Counterpoint Records which is one of my favorite book and record stores in LA and one particular record caught my eye. None other than the Stan Bush. Maybe you aren't too familiar with Mr. Bush but it will soon all make sense. Musically, he did sing the tune, "the touch," for the original Transformers film, along with great tunes for Kickboxer and BloodSport. Whatever the case, Stan has got some style and I think Mr. Jeezy West would agree. Take the jean jacket for example....I think this is where Kanye started rockin' the denim jacket after he saw this cover. It may seem like a stretch but I am going with it 100% percent.

Next up are Stan's Nike shoes. I think Mr. Touitou, founder of APC, saw this same cover and after heaving already collaborated with Nike, saw these particular shoes and couldn't pass up another collaboration with Nike. Afterall, Mr. Touitou is  huge music fan so this isn't so far off. I mean both kicks even have the rubber toe.

Even if you still doubt the connections, I think we can all agree that Stan Bush may have the worst rock n' roll name ever but the man was ahead of his time in terms of style.

The Seeds - Can't Seem to Make You Mine

This is the jam of the week. I can't stop listening to this tune. The Seeds were founded in Los Angeles in the 60's and their more infamous song is "Pushin too Hard," but I think this tune is my favorite by the band.
They look quite stylish as well as the singer seems to have the preppy look down.

Cal Crary - Brooklyn House of Detention

If you are in the BK this weekend I suggest you go to one of my favorite stores and check out this exhibition.....

Vintage Clapton = Current Robin Pecknold

Am I the only one who thinks these 2 could be twins? Eric Clapton and Robin Pecknold (Fleet Foxes)

If you still don't believe me, watch the Clapton video....the similarities are crazy.....

Coconut Records - "Microphone"

My Buddy Jason's new video for his single "Microphone." Arrow (the dog) is the lead and is so awesome.

Seavees

My buddy John sent me info on this brand that he reps because any kind of shoe that is just basic, he know I will like. Whether it be Vans, Quoddy's, Sperry's, Springcourts, I like all of them due to how subtle they are, and well made obviously.
These shoes seem to fit the bill as well and it looks as though they are perfect for LA having been founded in this great state. Oh, and if Paul Newman wore them, I think that's the seal of approval.

The #1 Summer Necessity

Any other time I would probably post about some shorts or shirt that I like but not this time. The one and only thing you need for this summer is maybe some good jams and sunscreen. Specifically, the Will Ferrell Sunscreen. 100% of the proceeds will go to Cancer for College. Good lord this is genius. I am buying some as we speak, i mean write..uh...you get the point.
Enjoy Summer...and let mugatu, frank the tank, chaz michael michaels, ron burgundy, or any other genius character Will  has portrayed, protect your body from the harshness of the sun.

Anvil LIVE

I got the opportunity to not only see Anvil! The Story of Anvil! for the second time, but also to see a special live performance by the band following the screening. The band was great and the director was so inspiring. It's the first time I will ever hear a crowd of Angelinos give standing ovations and remain enthusiastic throughout the 3 hour event. The director Sacha Gervasi should be incredibly proud of himself as "Lips," the frontman for the band, even said that the British director, "saved his life." Maybe that's true and maybe it isn't but this movie is so special in the simple fact that "Lips," has the most amazing outlook on life and continues to do what he loves, along with fellow bandmate Robb Reiner, no matter the cost.
Being able to see this band in person was special to me because I have so much respect for Robb and "Lips" as they have stayed together for 30+ years through thick and mostly thin times.

Lips rocking
and still rocking...

Lips hangin with more fans...

They were so great live, the director is a class act and I urge you to see the band live, see the movie, and if you are as lucky as I, do both. The family of Anvil is doing it right in more ways than one and a lot of people, especially those in LA, should take note. Be a good person.
