Sailing......

This past weekend I went sailing with some of my friends, whom I used to work with, and we had a fun day of sailing around Marina del Ray. no, we didn't listen to Toto, but rocked out to Styx instead, which was a solid choice. Here are some pics from Saturday.

Army Shoes vs. Margiela

I've had numerous pairs of these kicks for years and the main reason I bought them was due to the price. i bought my first pair at Steven Alan about 5 years ago (for about 80 big ones) and still get good use out of them. Then, I spotted them at a vintage store in Amsterdam for about 20 dollars. I'm pretty sure the shoes i have are form the German military during the 60
's or 70's so these have been around for sometime.
Then, the past couple seasons I kept noticing Margiela doing a line of sneakers that resembled mine but their price was about 400 to 500 dollars.
The big argument is to say that the quality of the Margiela shoe is much better than my "ole german sneaker," but I say if it's good enough for a solder to wear then it's good enough for me. as well, who needs a 500 dollar pair of shoes they are going to beat up? Kanye maybe? but c'mon, he can afford dat!
What do you think?

Sunset Junction

This will be my 2nd year of Sunset Junction and I am pretty pumped about it, especially to see Mary Wilson perform. She was in a small Motown group called The Supremes if you didn't know. Last year was tough to beat due to walking into El Cid at 1am and catching Edward Sharpe & The Magnetic Zeros perform. See ya there!

The Coolest Band On Earth

Phoenix is hands down one of my favorite bands on the planet but they are also the coolest band in my opinion. The band has got serious style and it doesn't hurt they are French. i enjoyed the story SPIN did on the boys that included a style special.

Where The Wild Things Are - The Soundtrack

We all know the movie is going to be good but I think the music might even have the chance to be as good as the film. Karen O of the Yeah Yeah Yeahs is acting as music supervisor/composer/singer which should make fun for some fun tunes to accompany the film. The first single, "All is Love," will be available on August 25.

Roman & Williams

Roman & Williams, the design team responsible for making the ACE Hotel (nyc) and Standard Hotel (nyc), allowed Metropolis Magazine to take some sweet pics of their Montauk digs. This might be the coolest house I've ever seen.

Flaming Lips - Greek Theatre

Last night i got to see some fellow Oklahomans completely mesmerize an audience at the legendary Greek Theatre. I have honestly never been to a show where the audience was as big a part as the band. Everyone in the sold-out crowd was having a complete blast. My crappy pictures don't really do the visuals justice but I thought I would share regardless. Please go see the Flaming Lips if you haven't seen them.

Hollywood Forever Cemetery

Since I no longer have a job, thus no longer having money, me and a friend decided to fill our day with something that didn't cost money. So, we went to Hollywood Forever Cemetery and walk around. I am not a goth guy by any means but I've heard great things about it ever since Cinespia started happening there in the summer.
Instead of taking pictures of famous dead people, which I found a little morbid to post on a blog, i took pictures of varoius trees that were there which were pretty neat in my opinion.
