Leslie Williamson's book is one everybody should have in their own personal library. It's a great book from start to finish. I recently stumbled upon Leslie's blog and was blown away by some outtakes and iphone pics she took.

When one hears "Maine Shoemakers," either L.L. Bean or Quoddy comes to mind, but there is another company that's just as good in my opinion. Rancourt & Company have been making quality shoes since 1964. Anyways, they custom made me some shoes and they will soon be at my shop.

Finally, a good rug with some character that didn't break the bank. I picked this one up for under $500 from one of my favorite shop's, Inheritance. It's about 6 x 9 and an oldie. It's nice to find an old rug that wasn't flea'ed out.

I got see me prior boss perform with the Dallas Symphony. This wasn't you typical symphony show. James and Co. played/talked/discussed the various films he has laid down music for. Throw in a q&a with Lawrence Kasdan, a choir, and a world renowned symphony, and it was a very cool experience.

When I was in NYC we went to the Red Rooster in Harlem. It was definitely one of the best spots I've been to food and vibewise. One of the things I really liked about the restaurant was the art on the wall. A waiter told me it was Philip Maysles and I am now thinking I might have to purchase a piece of his.

We went up a flight of stairs and stumbled upon the best unique shop I've probably ever been to. I am not that good of a writer to tell you how great this place is. You just need to go. A True Collector

I was fortunate enough to get to see Tom's art collection in his modest 2 bedroom apartment yesterday. Tom works in the catering business and over the years, he's established himself as the guy to hire for any/all art parties. Instead of getting a paycheck, he would trade for a piece of art. Now, his collection is considered to be the best in LA, with a collection of about 800 pieces. He has yet to sell one piece in his 40 years of collecting.

I popped into my favorite shop today and once again, Rene is always 2 steps ahead of everyone else it seems. Whether it's his own line of products or simply how he showcases those products, I always notice something amazing and different everytime I go there. Basically, the man is a genius.

He has some "new" work up at his shop that I thought was really cool. The artist is Clement Jolin. Go check his site out or better yet, go to your new favorite shop and see it in person.

Went to a party put on by Band of Outsiders and Mr. Porter where they screened one of my favorite movies of all time Meatballs. But, the kicker is that the dudes from Animal catered it and gave us all Meatball sandies to chow down on while watching this Bill Murray classic. They screened the movie at Hollywood Forever Cemetery which was a nice touch.

Just got back from Tulum and severely missing the cocktails but not the mosquitos. Here are some pics from our adventure. Too many good things to do/eat/see in Tulum but here is a quick batch of photos to show you what all we did.

Make sure you do the following when in Tulum - rent a bike, rent a car, eat/drink at Hartwood, hang out at Coqui Coqui or even get your spa on, go the the Grand Cenote, eat tacos at Rincon, go to the ruins, buy some hats, eat at Cetli, and repeat if necessary.

Wombleton Records Saved My Life

I DJ'ed a wedding over the weekend and a big chunk of it was playing records during the dinner portion of the evening. This was somewhat of a new venture for me so I made sure I had plenty of appropriate records. It was important for me to play records that would compliment the dinner and not overtake it. Beatles cover songs was the theme for the night and with the aid of Wombleton Records, I found some great stuff that was perfect for the night. Who would have thought that I could find a 7'' of Sergio Mendes covering "With a Little Help From My Friends," and "Fool on the Hill."

The owner of Wombleton knows more about music than anyone I have ever met. He played tons of records for me to see which ones I liked and gave me a great discount when I made my choices. This is THE BEST record store in LA! You can have Amoeba, I'll take Wombleton any day.

A Couch For A True Dude

You find crazy things in Oklahoma and this is no exception. This couch was taken from the ranch of a wealthy Osage Indian who got rid of it for unknown reasons. The couch itself is from the 30's and the detailing is pretty insane. The upholstery was done in the early 80's and there are some cracks but that only ads to it's charm in my opinion.

Hotel Il Pellicano

I randomly came upon this book while running around town and the moment I saw Slim Aaron's name on it, I bought it. Slim's work is synonymous with showing how the rich and famous live and this book is no exception.

Il Pellicano was founded in 1965 by a couple of American socialites and continues to be a mainstay for celebrities, royalty, and anyone else worth a damn.

As much as I love Slim's work, I like how this book has 3 different photographers/perspectives who shared their favorite pictures of their time at Il Pellicano. John Swope and Slim tackle the early years while Juergen Teller lent his camera for the current years, which show the hotel's expansion but still maintaining its roots.

Linda McCartney may be known to most as Sir Paul's first wife or as a the keyboardist in Wings. However, she truly was one of the greatest rock and roll photographers of all time. I first became aware of her work about 10 years ago when I bought her book, Sixties : Portrait of an Era.

Taschen is releasing a couple different versions of her life's work. if you don't have the 1k or 2.5k to drop on a limited edition, wait a beat and buy the trade version for about $75. Either way, you won't be disappointed.

Fellow OK native, Justin Lancaster continues his rhelm as the king of the LA bar scene with his 2nd bar, Beer Bar. The Silverlake bar is stocked with hard to find beer and also has some goods from the pop up shop my brother and I did over the holidays.

The bar is currently closed due to zoning issues but will be back up and running in no time.

Bruce Goff

Although Bruce Goff was born in Kansas, he spent most of his time in Oklahoma. He started learning architecture at the ripe age of 12 and continued to master his craft for many years. He worked on roughly 500 projects with about 20% actually being built.

While I was home for Thanksgiving I did some snooping around in my grandparents attic. Specifically, i was looking for some family pictures, clothing, sports memorabilia I could take back to LA with me. I am a sucker for anything old and relating to my family tree. I got very lucky because I stumbled upon a box that simply said "Evel Knievel slides and film, 1972."So, the minute I got back to LA I took the slides in to get them developed and took the 8mm film transferred to DVD.

As for the background on the actual events that took place, I am a little unsure of. From the photos, it seems that there was an amateur race and Evel did his thing after the race.

Overall, I am still in awe of how amazing the pictures are. Whomever took the photos, has some serious talent in my opinion. In the meantime, I'll have to ask my grandfather who was snapping all these great photos.

Chatting with Myles Henry

I stumbled upon Myles blog through one of the popular blog's of today and ended up spending a couple hours on it because the content seemed really fresh and not regurgitated like so many of cool blogs seem to do. I am not hating but there are times when it feels like every one is talking about the same old stuff. That includes me by the way.

Anyways, Myles has a really good eye and I feel as though are tastes are very similar. I really enjoy how Myles talks about various regions concerning furniture and style. One post will be about industrial vintage, the next about herringbone floors, then about his own style and purchases, and even throwing in his favorite picks from the newest IKEA catalog. Myles writes about what he likes and not about the trending topic and that's what I really like about his blog.

So, I e-mailed Myles to pick his brain a bit and asked him some very basic questions. Please note, I am not trying reinvent the wheel with these interviews. I just really want to know what some of my favorite bloggers/friends/shopkeepers do when they aren't on the interwebs. So, if you are looking for more in depth interviews, please don't look here.

What got you motivated to do a blog? any specific sites/blogs that made you want to create your own?

For me my blog just kind of started so I could keep a log of ideas. There are a ton of interior design blogs that I really enjoy, but not many of them are written by men. Some of my favorite blogs that I'm constantly inspired by are : A Time To Get, The Brick House, Remodelista, Identical Eye, and Secret Forts.

What do you do besides blog, do you work in the arts?

I actually dj for a living which is cool. I get to travel a lot and get to meet tons of amazing people. My wife also dj's, and we dj together a lot so it's been fun traveling with her and sharing our love for music. I have worked on a few different design projects and would love to make the transition to doing some type of design work full time over the next few years.

What are some of your favorite spots to go in LA to get inspired? Retail? Art? Food? Drink?

I'm from NY born and raised, I'm in LA right now djing but as far as NY goes there is so much. I currently live in Fort Greene Brooklyn, it's one of my favorite places on earth. Tons of great places to eat, beautiful tree lined streets, and tons of beautiful historic buildings. Some of my favorite places to shop as far as clothing goes are Opening Ceremony, they are always doing something interesting, and the owners Carol and Humberto are really great people. I also really like Nepenthes, Extra, J. Crew Liquor Store, Partners & Spade, and any one of the RRL stores.

As far as furniture spots I like Rosenburg Ltd a lot, the prices are insane but they have such beautiful pieces, so I usually go to poke around and get inspired. I think Cosmo in Williamsburg, Brooklyn is a really nice spot, they always have some nice pieces and the owner is a pretty friendly guy. Right around the corner from Cosmo is another one of my favorites, Moon River Chattel.
Some of my favorite spots to eat in New York are Pies & Thighs in Williamsburg Brooklyn, great comfort food, amazing fried chicken, mac and cheese, greens, mashed potatoes and they always a crazy dessert selection. A new-ish spot that I have quickly fallen in love with is The Meatball Shop in the LES. It's packed there pretty much all the time so make sure you call ahead to figure out what kind of wait you might be looking at, but this spot is so delicious. Stonehome Wine Bar in Fort Greene Brooklyn is another favorite of mine. Decor wise this place isn't at the top of the list but the food is incredible. Every time I have been there I've been more than impressed with everything i have ordered. I also like that it's not the super hipster hang out and it's also right around the corner from my crib. And last but not least, an oldy but goody is Diner in Williamsburg, Brooklyn. They have a tiny menu that stays the same every day and they always have a super long list of specials. They come up with special dishes depending on season and what they can get locally from the upstate farm they deal with. It's a super charming little restaurant but it's definitely a little hipster and your male waiter might have a "Rollie Fingers" mustache.

What are you most looking forward to for fall/winter?

Sundays. Sundays are an excuse for me to be a lazy piece of shit, I watch tons of Football, I wear sweatpants, eat pizza & wings, and drink some beer.

Alot of your blog posts, seem to be from outside the country. So, do you have any travel plans. If so where? My next travel plans that aren't work related are Santa Teresa, Costa Rica in January. My family has made this our go to spot for surfing and relaxing during the winter. Then my wife and i will be taking a trip to Paris in May. I've never been there but I'm really looking forward to spending some time exploring the city this spring.

A Pop Up Pie Shop???

My buddies Julia and Sarah are doing something thats never been done before.....a pop up pie shop. To kick it off, they are having their opening at Machine Project on Nov. 18.

Apolis in Vietnam

For those of us that didn't get to go on a full tour of Vietnam with the Apolis team, I recommend going to American Rag (Newport Beach location) for the premiere of their Vietnam Expedition film. The Apolis boys have outdone themselves with this one.
